"I met Brix in a lift in Harvey Nichols. We talked a bit and we could have gone on for a drink but didn't. She went off into the night. I realised I wanted to see her again but didn't know anything about how to get in touch. I had to track her down through her agent and, finally, I did. Since then we've pretty much been inseparable.

"When we moved from Notting Hill to Shoreditch it seemed like there was an opportunity to do something different with a clothes shop in this area. For all the Shoreditch style there wasn't really a good clothes shop in East London.

"Start has been a voyage of discovery and is much more fun than Woodhouse. With big business you end up drowning in reams of paper, but this is more than just a retail proposition. With the online shop and the blog it's become something of a big magazine. We also decided that we wanted to be more than just the best clothes shop in London: we decided to become the best shop in the world."

"I remember shopping for clothes when I was five. My mum was a model and from a young age I had a strong sense of style. Style can be just as creative as songwriting and it's every girl's dream to have a shop like Start. It's like being a kid and having a candy store.

"We have some great designers in the shop. Philip Lim I love. He's on the same wavelength as Chloe and keeps coming up with winners. Charles Anastase is so whimsical and makes clothes that look like they might have been designed for little girls. He makes you feel young and trendy. David Szeto is another favourite. He's Canadian and designs demi-couture from his atelier in Paris.

"Denim has always been important, too. Jeans are, like, for ever. But I'm 5' 2" and curvy and I always found it difficult to find jeans that fit. Jeans shopping is a suicide mission for some women. I thought wouldn't it be great if someone could work it out, ask a few questions and find you a pair that you look great in. That's what I do at Start.

"I first met Philip in a lift. Nothing happened and to see me again he had to get through all these barriers to get to me – and he did it. I thought he must be so powerful to have done that. I didn't know what he wanted from me but I was flattered. We arranged to meet and when we did we talked all night. We've been inseparable since."

I started Creative Profile because I’m always hearing about interesting people who are doing interesting things.
